Last April 22, 2012, Community-based Disaster Preparedness Committee (CDPC) members from Barangay Capri, Quezon City attended a capacity-building seminar on Hazard Mapping intended to develop a Community-based Counter Disaster Plan (CCDP) to prepare the community when disasters strike. The CCDP is crucial for the safety of the community after their negative experience in 2009, when the Tullahan river overflowed and submerged their community.

According to Marcelo Macasinag, member of the CDPC in Barangay Capri, many residents were affected during the flooding in 2009 and most did not know what to do when the water came. “We hope that by training ourselves to prepared for disasters, we are able to minimize the possible damage next time it arrives.”

The activity is part of the project “Capacity Building for Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response in Selected Workers and Urban Poor Communities in Quezon City” (CDPER). The CDPER is a project of IOHSAD in cooperation with Mayor Herbert Bautista of Quezon City and supported by the Priority Development Assistance Fund of Gabriela Womens Party Representative Luzviminda Ilagan.
