“After the attending the Asian Network for the Rights of Occupational Accident Victims Annual Meeting last year and various Occupational Health and Safety trainings, the workers of International Wiring Systems now have placed Occupational Health and Safety as among their priorities.”

This was the observation of Emma Celada, Training Officer of the Institute for Occupational Health and Safety Development (IOHSAD) after they conducted a Basic Occupational Health and Safety training last September 12, 2009 with workers from the IWS in Tarlac City, Tarlac as part of their preparation for the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

According to Celada, workers from IWS are often invited to their activities and gatherings but this time around, it was the union leadership which invited IOHSAD to conduct a training session on OHS. “We are seeing positive changes in IWS, where workers are now deliberately including OHS as part of their CBA.”

“IOHSAD hopes to train more workers from IWS not only for the basic skill set but also on more advance sessions, including Training of OHS Trainors to increase horizontal development in OHS skills among workers, something we have advocated for so long,” ended Celada.
